Summer ‘26 Trek: Day 0

Trip odometer: 0 miles

“I’m so excited that we are going on another trip that I can’t stop running around.”

That was Saydee’s perspective yesterday as we prepped the van. This morning, she was waiting expectantly to head down the road with her humans.

“I can’t wait to leave on our next adventure!”

I was hesitant. Will this long RVing trip be fun and relaxing? What if something goes wrong? What about all the driving?

It’s amazing what a can of Heinz tomato soup can do. When I saw it, sitting on a shelf in our galley, the peace around this lifestyle rushes back to me. I can’t explain why, as it certainly isn’t soup weather. I got a new burst of energy, just like Saydee, but to complete my projects and packing!

Peace comes from a can of Heinz tomato soup.

Two projects have pleased me surprisingly before this trip. The first was adding gas struts under the beds. Coupled with reconfiguring their doors, this has helped utilize the underbed storage tremendously – essential for this trip as we are taking lots of “stuff” to all our kids!

Gas struts, reconfigured doors, and motion-sensitive USB lights have transformed the usability of our underbed storage.

The second was a privacy curtain between the driver’s cab and the “house.” We’ve already felt how it insulates, and I expect it will reduce road noise while driving. Most importantly, Saydee can crawl underneath it to explore, including to jump onto the seats to look out of the front windows, leaving her noseprint as she barks at a passing squirrel. Or leaf. We are blessed to be protected by such a small yet vigilant guard dog.

This privacy curtain project with Janet was surprisingly satisfying!

I estimate we will drive 5,000 miles to visit Samuel and Kylie in Golden, CO, then Bailey and Jett in Nolensville, TN, with lots of fun in between. We won’t have to worry about our house under the care of a fine house sitter (thanks!!). My new challenge is to write shorter blogs!

"Cajunlimeys" combines Lousiana (Janet) and Britain (Peter). British sailors in the 19th century were nicknamed "limeys" as they drank lime juice to prevent scurvy. However, while Janet is a fine cook, she has no Cajun blood, but the name fit. We love adventures and use blogging to write a photo diary to preserve our memories. Some crazy friends enjoy following us, and my notes might help others plan.
