The blog continues even though I have left! The content below is from another team member, Dyson Clapp.
Today we cleared a 100+ year old live oak blown over in the front yard of Danny, a retired military man.
The tree’s huge upended rootball revealed how the hurricane winds toppled this giant oak: the roots tried to anchor in Pensacola’s fine white sand; great for beaches, but too loose for a giant oak in hurricane winds.
“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matt 7:26-27 NIV.

Days after the hurricane, shady contractors pounced with offers to remove the tree for $12K, then $10K, $6K, $4K, $2.5K and finally $2K ($2K seems close to a fair price).
Fortunately Danny was patient and didn’t get taken.
Today we turned Danny’s giant oak into a curbside woodpile with an offer others couldn’t match: the Good News that Eternal Salvation is freely available to all who accept Jesus as their personal Risen Savior. And to remind Danny, a Bible signed by each of us. Danny now knows the choice is his to make.

Afterwards, instead of our usual dinner in the church dining hall with ~150-200 other volunteers, Danny treated us to fine Pensacola pizzas. He’s seated at the end of the table wearing the lime green shirt, and talking to our team chaplain Leslie and leader Marcel.

….. and a sunset view of Pensacola Bay to reminder us our Creator made today possible 🙏🏻.
