The deck proves to be the perfect location for writing the blog! Yesterday’s Cardinal returned and joined me briefly on the deck, but was too shy for a photo.

Day 1 had a leisurely start. Bailey and Jett did a quick grocery store run to get milk and cream for coffee, and Jett and I worked out the bean grinder and brewer to make a mighty fine brew, though the view helps the taste. Kylie and Samuel fixed a scrumptious breakfast casserole, and soon we were ready to explore! Bailey took on the responsibility of driver as we all piled into the Pilot , and she found the cheapest parking in the Methodist Church’s car park. There were some crowds and lots of shops to wander past, with a fascinating mix of Bible Belt, Nashville-style music scene, hippies, and tacky tourist shops. However, it was the draw of free cookies that draw our attention first.

Off the main drag, we found a quiet group of shops called The Village which captured our time for a while.

Janet was very excited by the taffy-making machines!

Bailey’s focus was her M&M covered caramel apple, which the shop kindly cut up so we could all enjoy.

A Gatlinburg sign caught my attention and everyone performed well.

We had some downtime as our house, which was great for napping before checking out the area with my drone.

Next up was Dolly Parton’s Stampede. We all agreed it was an excellent display of horsemanship with a large and tasty meal which included a whole chicken. The fun was amplified by Samuel’s performance in one of the team competitions, after Kylie and Jett volunteered him.

And that was Day 1. Bed was calling for the old folk while the kids enjoyed the hot tub. Though this morning’s sunrise accompaniment to the bird’s dawn chorus and the cockadoodledooing across the valley sets the stage for another fine day.
